Brigadier General KRISTIN A. HILLERY

Brig. Gen. Kristin Hillery is the Mobilization Assistant to the Air Force Deputy Surgeon General, Office of the Surgeon General, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Falls Church, Virginia. As the Mobilization Assistant, she assists the Deputy Surgeon General in supporting the Air Force and Space Force Surgeon General and the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs on matters pertaining to the medical aspects of the air expeditionary force and the health of Airmen and Guardians. Brig. Gen. Hillery supports the Deputy Surgeon General in the operations for the Air Force Medical Service composed of a $6.1 billion, 40,000-person integrated healthcare delivery system service 2.6 million beneficiaries at 76 military treatment facilities worldwide while directly supporting a $42 billion Defense Health Program portfolio. Brig. Gen. Hillery also assists the Deputy Surgeon General with Air Force Medical Service strategy and future concepts and operational medical policy development. She supports the functions of the Air Force Surgeon General’s office, to include clinical operations and quality, aeromedical evacuation, global force management, readiness, strategic medical plans, programs and budget, medical force management and medical information system management. Additionally, she serves as a liaison and advisor to the Command Surgeon, Air force Reserve Command and staff on medical matters involving Air Force Reserve personnel. 

Brig. Gen. Hillery was commissioned in June 1993 upon graduation from the United States Air Force Academy. She completed health administration training in February 1994, and since then has accumulated an extensive background in the Medical Service Corps functions with 6 years of active duty service and 25 plus years in the Air Force Reserve. Her reserve time includes serving as a traditional reservist, an IMA and as an Active Guard Reserve member. Brig. Gen. Hillery has commanded a 155- member medical squadron. Prior to her current position, Brig. Gen. Hillery was the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, Air Force Medical Command, Medical Readiness Command-Alpha in San Antonio, Texas. 

While at USAFA, Brig. Gen. Hillery was awarded the Most Valuable Player for the Women’s Basketball team in 1993, earned USAFA’s Scholar Athlete Award. She still holds the record for the single season 3-point shot percentage of 48.6%. Brig. Gen. Hillery volunteered and deployed to Joint Base Balad, Iraq to lead aeromedical patient staging operations in 2006 and 2009. In her civilian career, she has taught for over 24 years as a middle school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District, Los Angeles, California.
