Brigadier General CHARLES D. COOLEY

Brig. Gen. Charles “Dan” Cooley is the Commander, 36th Wing, Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. He is responsible for the well-being of more than 8,000 joint military and civilian personnel executing bomber task forces, tanker task forces, theater security packages, contingency response operations and peacetime and combat operations in the Indo-Pacific. As the Deputy Commander of the Joint Region Marianas, he supports the Department of Defense installation management of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Brig. Gen. Cooley received his commission in 1999 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps as a graduate of West Virginia University. He has served in a variety of staff positions at the 618th Air Operations Center, Air Mobility Command, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, United States Congress and the personal office of the Secretary of Defense. His career also consists of numerous leadership positions including Commander, 62nd Operations Support Squadron at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Commander, 817th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron at Thumrait Air Base, Oman; Vice Commander and then Commander, 515th Air Mobility Operations Wing, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii; and Commander, 521st Air Mobility Operations Wing, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Prior to his current position, the general was the Deputy Commander, 618th Air Operations Center, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Brig. Gen. Cooley is a command pilot with more than 3,100 total flight hours and more than 1,000 combat/combat support flight hours in the C-17 and KC-135 R/T aircraft. He has deployed and supported operations New Dawn, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle and Southern Watch.
