LEAP Active Duty Application Window Opens 1 May

The Air Force Culture and Language Center (AFCLC) is accepting applications to the Language Enabled Airman Program (LEAP).  Regular Active Duty officer and enlisted members may apply online 1 May thru 15 July 2020 at https://leader.sso.cce.af.mil.

LEAP is an AFCLC-managed, volunteer program open to Regular Active Duty officer and enlisted Airmen in most Air Force Specialty Codes.  LEAP deliberately develops language-enabled, cross-cultural Airmen with working-level foreign language proficiency.  With these skills, Airmen can better support the application of airpower through strengthening partnerships and interoperability.

To become a LEAP scholar, Airmen must demonstrate some level of proficiency in a foreign language specified on the Air Force Strategic Language List, receive endorsement from their unit commander, and compete via a board process.  Selection to LEAP is based on applicants’ academic history and job performance, existing language proficiency, potential to achieve higher levels of language proficiency, and Air Force language requirements.

Participants in LEAP are required to complete online eMentor courses, as well as attend periodic Language Intensive Training Events.  Successful completion of program requirements will result in eligibility for the LEAP Special Experience Identifier (SEI) and consideration for Foreign Language Proficiency Pay and other language-related opportunities in the Air Force.

As of April 2020, there are over 3,200 participants in the Language Enabled Airman Program. For more information on dates and eligibility requirements, please visit our website at https://www.airuniversity.af.edu/AFCLC/Language-studies/ or contact us at afclc.language@us.af.mil.
