Altus AFB continues tradition with annual cattle drive Published Aug. 26, 2021 By Airman 1st Class Kayla Christenson 97th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla.-- Airmen and family members looked on as cowboys and cowgirls from the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo drove dozens of longhorns and horses through Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, Aug. 26, 2021. The cattle drive is an annual event that carries on the tradition of “The Great Western Trail,” a path that over 6 million cattle and 1 million horses travelled during the late 19th century.
