    Working on a gloomy Wednesday morning can be difficult for many, but for Lt. Col. David “Beau” Easterling Jr., 43rd Flying Training Squadron instructor pilot, this day was special. Easterling completed his 4,000th flying hour in the T-38 Talon on September 23, 2020, at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss.
  • Instructor pilot strengthens airfield readiness through beta app

    To innovate and improve the process Capt. McKenzie Kane, 50th Flying Training Squadron Instructor pilot, has been designing an application over the past year to display such information called AF Status. AF Status is now being used to replace a dated process to disseminate pre-flight information within the squadron.
  • AETC tests new, innovative way of helicopter pilot training

    Two 23rd Flying Training Squadron TH-1H Hueys stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and 14 personnel, traveled to Columbus Air Force Base for training as part of the Undergraduate Helicopter Training Next (UHTN) program.

  • Columbus AFB hosts two graduations amidst COVID-19 regulations

    Thirty-two pilots graduated from Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss. on Dec. 11, 2020. In order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the larger class was spilt up into two ceremonies, allowing proper social distancing among the graduates and family members attending.
  • 14th FTW Airman is 2020 AETC Air Field Equipment SNCO of the Year

    Master Sgt. Michael Rosatone, 14th Aircrew Flight Equipment Flight superintendent, was recognized as the Air Education and Training Command Outstanding Air Field Equipment Senior Non Commissioned Officer of the Year for 2020. While the award recognizes personal achievement, Rosatone credits his success to the team he works with daily.
  • 50th FTS commemorates Vietnam POW with painting

    The 50th Flying Training Squadron at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, paid homage to Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Richard “Gene” Smith, Vietnam prisoner of war and former 50th FTS commander, by placing a symbol of their squadron’s heritage on November 13, 2020. The symbol is a painting of an F-4 Phantom performing a roll over the infamous Hoa Lo Prison, in Vietnam, otherwise known to American POWs as “The Hanoi Hilton” during the Vietnam War.
