  • The eyes of the sky: RAPCON key to training mobility Airmen

    When thinking of airspace, one might assume that the chances of two aircraft colliding while in the air is pretty low. In reality, there are tens of thousands of planes in the air at any given point. Additionally, variables such as bad weather and low visibility make flying a feat that can’t be accomplished with aircrew alone. This is where the 97th Operational Support Squadron Radar Approach Control Flight comes in.
  • First in AETC: KC-46s refuel F-16 fighters

    In a first for Air Education and Training Command and the 56th Air Refueling Squadron, two KC-46 Pegasus aircraft from the 97th Air Mobility Wing at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma, along with 10 F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 49th Wing at Holloman AFB, New Mexico, teamed up in the skies over New Mexico to train and practice air refueling operations.

  • Another ‘step’ in maintaining the mission

    At the 97th Air Mobility Wing, aircrew are trained daily on the C-17 Globemaster III, KC-46 Pegasus and the KC-135 Stratotanker. While training occurs, the 97th Maintenance Group continuously works to keep the mission moving forward. When the 97th MXG discovers a need for a unique item, the fabrication flight can provide in-house creation. In this case, the flight constructed a three step staircase used to support the C-17 Engine Maintenance Stands.
